----------

Humble Masterpieces: Everyday Marvels of Design, is a by-product of the 2004 MoMA exhibition Humble Masterpieces.

Paola Antonelli, the author and a curator of MoMa, handpicks 50 everyday, affordable, easily available objects and traces their design origins.

SwissChamp Knife, Slinky, Crown Bottle Cap, Sugar Cube, Whisk, Dixie Paper Cup, Filofax, Tablerone, Pushpins, Band-Aid, Chopsticks, ...

Humble Masterpieces is easy to read (for each object, 1 gorgeous full-page photo + 1 page of text, using just a couple of hundred words) and totally enjoyable.

  1. Humble Masterpieces seems very interesting. I will try to get a copy.

But I haven't read any books since I return to HK...

  2. i've read quite a number of books (and watched many movies) lately since i felt a bit lost after finishing the shikoku travelogue. for some reason, i didn't feel like starting on the italy travelogue (it looks increasingly likely that it will never been done), nor did i want to write much on anything else (hence the dearth of book and film reviews on jtblog).
