Gmail, in perpetual beta

A friend wrote that men tend to like Google, while women like Yahoo!. I don't know whether there is any truth in it, but I am a man, and I Google as well.

Taking about Google, it seems that I have been using Gmail as my main email program for ages, yet it is still in beta and new users need to get in through referral (a routine process really). Is there any chance that Gmail will grow out of betahood, and become a real man, in the near future?

  1. I think its referral / forever-beta gimmick contribute very much to its success, apart from its sexy brand name. People like the feeling of being privileged. Exclusive invitation makes everybody happy.

  2. you may be right, but you can't deny that it is actually a great email program.

to me, the grouping of emails and the email notifier (with sender and brief content) are wonderful features. the same reason applies to why i prefer google's news search (with grouping of similar news) rather than yahoo!'s.

i don't know whether the email notifier means much to other users, but for me, i have the habit of replying to emails asap. the notifier lets me know whether the incoming email is one that need immediate attention.
