We have always enjoyed using computer phones to talk to relatives in different parts of the world. The calls are free, setting up conference calls is easy. Very importantly, video calls are possible, making the "talk" a much more rewarding experience.At first, we used Yahoo! Messenger since it had everything. Then came Skype, with superior sound quality. We changed to a mixed mode, with voice through Skype and video through Yahoo! Messenger. It was a bit clumsy, and this arrangement did the job quite nicely.
Last night, I updated Skype to V.2 with video. Since then, I have made two testing calls, and the video quality was superior to that of Yahoo! Messenger. As soon as all my relatives have installed the latest Skype, I think we will abandon Yahoo! Messenger altogether.
It seems that video conference call is not possible with Skype. Since I engage in 3-way calls all the time, it means that Yahoo! Messenger will continued to be used (for video) with Skype (for voice).

in my layman's term, yahoo! messenger's video is in broadcast mode, so several persons can watch your webcam video at the same time. in skype, however, the video is in person-to-person mode.
回覆刪除in this respect, yahoo! messenger is superior, but skype is superior in both voice and video quality. as far as i am concerned, i would use skype in all occasions except three-way video conferencing, when i would use a mixed mode: skype for voice and yahoo! messenger for video.
