Bra bag and bag bra

Celebrating the migration of this blog to the new Blogger Beta platform, here's a feel-good entry. Enjoy.

The latest and greatest invention from Japan is the eco-friendly bra bag - the No! Shopping Bag Bra from Triumph Intl. Japan.

This wonder bra can be turned into a shopping bag in just a few simple steps and is designed to promote the reduction of plastic bag consumption.

According to Pink Tentacle, "when the bra is being worn, the 'shopping bag' portions are folded away inside the bra cups, where they serve as extra padding. The bra quickly converts to a shopping bag by removing the bag portions from the cups and connecting the hooks on the bra's underwire. The lace cups serve as decoration along with the shoulder straps, which are disconnected and tied to the top of the bag as ribbons."

Two things I don't understand:
1. Can the bag be reverted back to a bra after the shopping's done?
2. Can the bra-bag transformation be done in seconds? There is usually a long queue behind you at the supermarket check-out.

On the whole, I doubt whether any significant number of plastic shopping bags can be saved as a result of this invention.

But I have no doubt about the eco-friendliness credential of this one: turning a plastic bag into a bra.

According to the inventor, "this bra can be used for men as part of a party costume" but can also suit the really thrifty and crafty type. Just follow the instructions from BBC's h2g2 site.

OK, I have to admit, the main reason why I posted the above entry was to test whether the new Blogger platform publishes texts, graphics and videos correctly. It did. But from early experience, the "publishing process" was as bad as the previous one. In fact, you might argue that old platform is superior in that at least it gives you the "percentages" while you wait, whereas in the new platform, you never know how close you are from being done. Also, I am still having problems with publishing using Firefox, my default browser. Publishing with IE seemed smoother.

It's a dilemma. I have four blogs, two of which publish on my joetsang.net domain using FTP, while the other two are hosted by Blogspot. Of course I prefer my blogs to be on my domain. But the speed and ease of publishing, and the bigger range of formatting and customisation possibilities under Blogspot are quite persuasive.

  1. as far as i know, if you insist on publishing via ftp to your domain, the old and new platforms are pretty much the same, except that labels are available under beta.

the publishing process under beta is not much better. it still takes a fair bit of time to publish a post, and a bloody long time to republish the whole blog (like when you make changes to the template). of course, blogger claims that the beta platform is more stable, so there should be much less instances of outages (or failures in the dreaded publishing process). we shall wait and see.

as such, it is not easier to change template under the new platform. the fact that i have used a new template was not a result of a voluntary decision but a forced one.

after a relatively painless migration process last night, i grew in confidence and decided to add some modifications to the template a few hours ago.

as you can imagine, i somehow screwed up the whole thing. while firefox continued to display the blog correctly, ie just showed a blank page. and i had no idea why or how to solve the problem.

so, my ingenious solution was to ditch the past and start anew.

  2. yeah, ditch the past and start anew is a good way to reconstruct.

    painful though.

but of course, the pain of losing a customised template is nothing compared to losing the full contents (oh no.....)

this conversation reminds me of what i wrote some time last year. i wrote "how I wish I had a similar reset button on my body. When in trouble (physical or psychological), just press it, and everything is fine again. Wouldn't it be great?" You comment was "Good point, Joseph. That's why we should all learn to be forgetful."

the above in turn reminds of kundera's "the book of laughter and forgetting". pity that i have totally forgotten what this book was about. :-)
