I mentioned before that I took advantage of the introductory offer of A$250 one-way fare between Brisbane and Kansai by the budget airline Jetstar.
Now Jetstar will soon to flying to Nagoya, from Cairns, and is offering a A$200 one-way fare. Sounds good value. Except when you realise that Cairns is not a convenient departure point from Australia (Brisbane-Cairns fare usually costs A$100 or more) and Nagoya and its surroundings are not terribly exciting places to visit (but we did go to Takayama and Shirakawago via Nagoya last November).
However, for the Japanese, particularly those in central Honshu, this could be a great addition to existing connections. Cairns, with the nearby Great Barrier Reef, should be very attractive to Japanese holiday-makers.
