Have you booked to see The Last Supper in Milan? If the weather is nice, go up the top of the Church. The spikes up there are awesome.
回覆刪除Why don't you go to Pompeii?
It's good that you've assigned so much time for Rome. You can't do much in one day - queues too long for all the tourist sights. And beware of heat waves!
I'm still figuring out my Berlin itin, will let you know asap. :)
i usually pre-book all hotels, but never any activities. it would be nice to be able see the last supper, but to me, it is not a must-see.
回覆刪除we went to italy over a decade ago. i remember day-tripping to milan during a rainly day. not much to do, but we went up to the roof of the duomo nonetheless. we were alone, high up there, and have a photo to prove!
really hope we can have some fun time in berlin. after so much old stuff, i am thinking may be i would concentrate on the modern side of berlin. had i not decided to detour to berlin, i would probably be spending that period in umbria.
any recommendations for my euro 08 trip? it would also be a month-long journey. how about northern europe, poland, the baltic states and russia?
Since there's really nothing much to do in Milan if you are not a shopping-freak, seeing the Last Supper is the most recommendable thing to do. It's fading so better take the chance.
回覆刪除Berlin... there're many things to do, but just don't expect to find traces of the wall. Don't miss the gourmet floor in KaDeWe (biggest dept. store). Perhaps we can go to Potsdam together.
Euro 08? I suggest Balkans. Spain+Portugal will be good if you haven't been.
i've been to spain (madrid, barcelona, sevilla, granada ...) before and loved it. not portugal. i would definitely visit this part of europe again.
回覆刪除balkans? sounds great.
actually, the popularisation of budget flights has fundamentally changed how travel arrangements are made. in the past, people planned to visit a certain region/country over a certain number of days. now they can easily visit two or more parts of europe (if that's what they want).
e.g., ten years ago, i wouldn't include berlin in a grand tour of italy, since travel cost by flight would be too expensive, or travel time too long if train was taken.
I will also do a day trip to the 3 Amalfi coast cities and a day trip to Capri. Do you think one day will be enough for the Amalfi coast?
回覆刪除from what i have read so far, one day should be enough for the 3 amalfi coast towns (of courses, the more days the better).
回覆刪除assuming that you are not driving, you can take the bus to go one way, and then the boat/ferry from amalfi back to sorrento. you'd have the best of both worlds.
one thing though. i read that the bus could be quite crowded and uncomfortable during peak tourist season. you may not be able to enjoy the spectacular views of the amalfi coast. you may even not be able to get on the bus as it gets full fast.
once there, examine the situation. consider the alternative of joining a "tour" which takes you to the 3 towns by coach. the problem is, they move at a fixed schedule, leaving you less freedom to walk around the places. also, you will then not be able to come back by boat/ferry.
